End the day at 15:30 at the Archaeological Park, 15 minutes on foot from the station. Traditional US$29 · Super Sacred Valley US$31 — one dollar less than returning to Cusco.
Both Sacred Valley day tours can finish in Ollantaytambo instead of driving back to Cusco: the Traditional for US$29 and the Super Sacred Valley for US$31, one dollar less because the return is not included. The tour ends at 15:30 at the Archaeological Park, about 1 km from the station where the Machu Picchu trains leave. The Traditional ending there skips Chinchero; the Super Sacred Valley skips Pisac. Train tickets are not included.
Trains that fit without rushing: Inca Rail 16:36 and PeruRail 19:00. An earlier train means leaving the group early — the rule is below.

Pisac on the Traditional runs about 1 h 30 in total (site plus market); on the Super Sacred Valley the stops before lunch are shorter because there are three of them.
About 1 km and 15 minutes on foot (Google Maps counts 16), downhill: out of the Park, across the Plaza de Armas and along Avenida Ferrocarril to the station. By car it is around 5 minutes when the street is clear — but in the afternoon the buses and taxis meeting every train jam the station avenue, and a car can take longer than your own legs.
If you are cutting it fine, a mototaxi threads through the traffic better than a car; agree the fare before you get in.
Open the route on Google Maps ↗After the 15:30 finish, these are the departures we suggest. Earlier trains mean leaving the group early.
Full tour, walk to the station at 15:30 and board. The tightest of the two that works without leaving the group.
The relaxed choice: over two and a half hours for a coffee, the Inca lanes or an early dinner in town.
| Your train departs | What it means | Leave the Park by |
|---|---|---|
| 16:36 or later | Full tour, no changes | 15:30, with the group |
| 15:15 – 16:35 | Leave the group early, on your own timing | 1 hour before departure |
| Before 15:15 | Does not fit, even leaving early: change the ticket or sleep in the valley | — |
| Example: PeruRail 15:37 | Leave at 14:30 · station at 14:45 · boarding at 15:07 | 14:30 |
Leaving early is your decision and your timing. Tickets and schedules are set by each train company and can change: check yours before booking the tour. Our recommendation remains Inca Rail 16:36 or PeruRail 19:00. Leaving early does not change the price: you pay the same as ending in Ollantaytambo (US$29 Traditional, US$31 Super Sacred Valley), because the early exit depends on your train ticket.
Travel light: a personal backpack or a carry-on. When the group reaches Ollantaytambo, take everything out of the tour vehicle: keep your backpack with you and leave a carry-on at the luggage storage at the Archaeological Park entrance. You pick it up yourself on your way to the station.
Your train ticket (printed or on your phone) and your passport or ID — it is checked for the Tourist Ticket. A day pack with water, a snack, layers and a jacket; something waterproof from November to March. Soles in cash for entrances, the market and a mototaxi if you need one.
The train to Aguas Calientes, the bus up to the citadel and the Machu Picchu entrance are bought separately. Ending in Ollantaytambo only changes where the day tour finishes; everything else about Machu Picchu is yours to arrange.
If your train leaves before 15:15, or you simply do not want to rush, stay the night in Ollantaytambo or Urubamba and take a morning train. It also suits anyone who wants the full tour and an early train the next day.
With Inca Rail or PeruRail, from Ollantaytambo. Aim for 16:36 or 19:00; anything earlier than 16:36 means leaving the group early.
Pick the Traditional (US$29) or the Super Sacred Valley (US$31) above, choose your lunch and add the entrance tickets in the Add-ons step.
On WhatsApp, right after booking. We note your train time and, if you need it, your early exit from the group.
The tour ends at the Archaeological Park; the station is 15 minutes on foot. Remind your guide at pickup if you are leaving early.
At 2,790 m, Ollantaytambo is the lowest point of the day and the western end of the Sacred Valley. Both routes visit its fortress-temple at 14:15, after lunch in Urubamba, and finish at the Archaeological Park at 15:30. The town itself keeps its Inca street grid, so the walk down to the station is part of the visit.

Ask on WhatsAppUS$29 on the Traditional and US$31 on the Super Sacred Valley, per person with lunch at Rustica. That is one dollar less than the same tour with a return to Cusco, because the ride back is not part of it. Upgraded lunches cost the same extra as always: 14 Inkas +US$4, Don Ángel +US$15, Tunupa +US$20.
At 15:30, at the Archaeological Park of Ollantaytambo. From there the train station is about 1 km away: 15 minutes on foot (Google Maps says 16) through the Plaza de Armas and Avenida Ferrocarril, or around 5 minutes by car when the street is clear.
Inca Rail at 16:36 (boarding from 16:06, about 21 minutes of margin once you reach the station on foot) and PeruRail at 19:00 (boarding from 18:30, with over two and a half hours to spare in town). We do not suggest departures earlier than 16:36. The train ticket is sold separately by each company.
Yes, as long as you leave the Archaeological Park at least one hour before your train departs — 30 minutes for boarding, 15 on foot and a margin for the busy station street. The group arrives in Ollantaytambo at 14:15 on both routes, so: a train at 16:36 or later means the full tour; a train between 15:15 and 16:35 means leaving early; a train before 15:15 does not fit even leaving early — change the ticket or sleep in the valley. Example: PeruRail 15:37 — leave at 14:30, station by 14:45, boarding at 15:07. Tell us your train time when you book and remind your guide at pickup. Leaving early does not change the price: you pay the same as ending in Ollantaytambo (US$29 Traditional, US$31 Super Sacred Valley), because the early exit depends on your train ticket.
Bring only what you can carry yourself: a personal backpack or a carry-on. Your things do not stay in the tour vehicle. When the group reaches Ollantaytambo at 14:15, take all your belongings with you: carry your backpack, and leave a carry-on at the luggage storage at the entrance control of the Archaeological Park. You collect it yourself when you leave — at 15:30, or earlier if your train requires it. The guide does not keep or hand over luggage.
Traditional: the Taray viewpoint, Pisac, lunch in Urubamba and Ollantaytambo — Chinchero is not visited and the day lasts about 8 hours. Super Sacred Valley: Chinchero, the Maras salt mines, Moray, lunch in Urubamba and Ollantaytambo — Pisac is not visited and the day lasts about 9 hours.
None is included. On the Traditional ending in Ollantaytambo the Cusco Tourist Ticket covers Pisac and Ollantaytambo. On the Super Sacred Valley ending in Ollantaytambo it covers Chinchero, Moray and Ollantaytambo, and the Maras salt mines charge their own entrance, collected by the local community. Add them in the Add-ons step of the checkout or pay in cash (soles) on the day.
No. The train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, the bus up to the citadel and the Machu Picchu entrance are bought separately. Ending in Ollantaytambo only changes where the day tour finishes.
